OISSS closed on Friday 2/7

The Office for International Student & Scholar Services (OISSS) will be closed Friday, February 7th for the annual Global Brown Retreat. Normal Business hours will resume on Monday, February 10th. Thank you for your understanding.

Curricular/Optional Practical Training (CPT/OPT) for F-1 Students:

Tuesday, February 11 - CPT covered at 1:30pm - OPT covered 2:00-3:00pm

Presenter(s): Elke Breker and/or Kelsey Dennis, Office of International Student & Scholar Services Location: Petteruti Lounge (Campus Center Room 201, 75 Waterman Street)

The curricular practical training (CPT) part of this presentation is designed for undergraduate and graduate students who have been in F-1 status for a minimum of one academic year and who are interested in a paid internship off campus.

The second part of the presentation addresses questions related to optional practical training (OPT) for F-1 students who are interested in utilizing this employment authorization during the summer, or who plan to complete their academic program in 2020.

Please note: Students who plan to complete their academic program during the spring 2020 semester are strongly advised to apply for postcompletion OPT as early as 90 days before their anticipated completion date.

Employment and Visa Options for International Students and Scholars

Monday April 6th from 4:00 - 6:00 PM

Presenter: Immigration Attorney Liz Goss Location: To be announced

The focus of this informational session, geared toward students and scholars, will be on nonimmigrant employment with special emphasis on visa options after optional practical training (F-1) or academic training (J-1)*. Ms. Goss will discuss various types of working visas and applicable filing requirements, and update participants on current H-1B provisions and the petition process for H-1B visas. Other work visas and employment-based permanent residency (green card) will be introduced as well.

*Students with questions related to practical training should attend the CPT/OPT workshops and/or consult with an OISSS advisor.
