Final 2022 Workshop for F-1 Curricular/Optional Practical Training (CPT/OPT)

Thursday, September 29 – 10:00-11:30am (CPT covered 10:00-10:30, OPT/STEM covered 10:30-11:30)

Please note: these sessions will not be recorded, time will be reserved for Q & A.

The Curricular Practical Training (CPT) segment of this presentation is of particular interest to undergraduate and graduate students who have been in F-1 status for a minimum of one academic year, and who would like to explore options pertaining to internships off campus.

The second part of the presentation addresses questions related to Optional Practical Training (OPT) for F-1 students who are interested in utilizing this employment authorization during the summer, or who plan to complete their academic program in 2022/2023.

Please note: Students who plan to complete their academic program during the Fall 2022 semester are strongly advised to apply for post-completion OPT as early as 90 days before their anticipated completion date.

Diversity Visa Program (Green Card Lottery) Opens October 5th

 

The U.S. Department of State will be accepting applications for the 2024 Diversity Visa Program from noon on Wednesday, October 5 until noon on Tuesday, November 8, 2022. 

 

Students in F-1 or J-1 status (and their dependents) are eligible to apply, except those born in the following countries: Bangladesh, Brazil, Canada, China (including Hong Kong SAR), Colombia, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Haiti, Honduras, India, Jamaica, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan, Philippines, South Korea, United Kingdom (except Northern Ireland) and its dependent territories, Venezuela, and Vietnam. Natives of Macau SAR and Taiwan are eligible.

Immigration Attorney Presentation - Save the Date - November 1st

OISSS will host immigration attorney Elizabeth Goss from Goss and Associates on Tuesday, November 1st. Please save the date! RSVP link to follow.

 

The focus of this informational session, geared toward students and scholars, will be on nonimmigrant employment with special emphasis on visa options after optional practical training (F-1) or academic training (J-1). Ms. Goss will discuss various types of working visas and applicable filing requirements, and update participants on current H-1B provisions and the petition process for H-1B visas. Other work visas and employment-based permanent residency (green card) will be introduced as well. _____________________________________________________________________________________
