Employment Authorization Document (EAD) Card Issues

If you are having problems or have questions about the delivery of your EAD (Employment Authorization Document) card, please read below. Once USCIS approves a Form I-765 application for work authorization, it will order an EAD card for you.

Please note that ISSS is unable to directly resolve EAD card delivery issues, and you may eventually need to apply for a replacement EAD. However, the following information may help you to resolve some common EAD issues.

Before You Begin

If you are having problems with the delivery of your EAD card, the first step is to gather your case information. This includes the following:

  • Your I-797 receipt notice. Your I-797 receipt notice contains your I-765 application's unique 13-digit case (or receipt) number, which is in the format “IOExxxxxxxxxx.” You may have received your I-797 by mail or electronically. If you applied online you can also retrieve your case number by logging into your myUSCIS account and searching for it there.
  • Your most recent I-765 case status. Once you have found your unique case number, check the status of your I-765 application by going to USCIS's Case Status Online system or looking at the most recent case history in your myUSCIS account.
  • Your USPS delivery tracking number and tracking status. Once USCIS approves your I-765 application and your EAD card has been mailed, it should be assigned a US Postal Service (USPS) tracking number. The tracking number should be indicated in the Case Status Online system or in your myUSCIS account case history. Track your USPS delivery information using USPS's tracking system.
