OPT Processing Taking More Than 90 Days - Apply Now!

News & Alert

Dear F‐1 Student,

This is a reminder that now is the Ɵme to apply for OPT (Optional Practical Training) if you plan to work in the U.S. after graduation. OPT applications must be mailed to USCIS and the processing time has been especially lengthy in recent months. We estimate that it will take 3 to 4 months for the OPT card to be issued, potentially creating
problems for students who want to work or travel internationally soon after graduation. You do not need to have a job offer to apply for OPT.

To begin the OPT process, please review the application instructions on the OISSS website and submit the online OPT I-20 Request Form. Then drop off the required materials at OISSS any time during open hours.

If you have any questions, please call OISSS at 401‐863‐2427 or stop by walk‐in advising hours Monday‐Thursday 1:30‐3:30pm.

Best regards,
Kelsey
