News & Alert
The Office of International Students and Scholars (OISSS) recently emailed information to F-1 students on Optional Practical Training (OPT) and the STEM Extension of post-completion OPT (STEM OPT) regarding isolated reports of USCIS site visits taking place at worksites, remote job locations, and even student residences.
These visits are intended to verify the employment information of F-1 students on OPT or STEM OPT. Students may be asked to confirm their employment details, including worksite location, job duties, and addresses as reflected in their SEVIS record or other government documents.
Based on this information, OISSS is advising students to review their SEVIS records and ensure that their address, worksite, and training information are up to date and consistent with the requirements of OPT and the STEM Extension of OPT. Students are also recommended to keep on hand copies of their employment authorization (EAD) cards, I-94 information, and educational records such as transcripts showing that they have satisfactorily completed their programs in their respective fields of study.
The Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) also provides information about employer site visits relating to students employed under STEM OPT.
