2018 FALL WORKSHOPS FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS AND SCHOLARS

Curricular/Optional Practical Training (CPT/OPT) for F-1 Students:

Wednesday September 26th, CPT covered at 3:00pm, OPT covered 3:30-4:30pm
 &
Tuesday October 9th, CPT covered at 12:00pm, OPT covered 12:30-1:30pm (same content)

Location: Petteruti Lounge (Campus Center Room 201)

The curricular practical training (CPT) part of this presentation is designed for undergraduate and graduate students who have been in F-1 status for a minimum of one academic year and who are interested in an internship off campus. The second part of the presentation addresses questions related to optional practical training (OPT) for F-1 students who are interested in employment authorization during the summer, or who plan to complete their academic program in 2018 and apply for post-completion work authorization.

Please note: Students who plan to complete their academic program during the 2018 fall semester are strongly advised to apply for post-completion OPT as early as 90 days before their anticipated completion date.

Employment and Visa Options for International Students and Scholars

Tuesday November 13th, 2018 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM (for F and/or J Students + Scholars)

Presenter: Immigration Attorney Liz Goss

Location: Petteruti Lounge (Campus Center Room 201)

The focus of this informational session will be on nonimmigrant employment with special emphasis on visa options after the completion of studies* or research program. Ms. Goss will discuss various types of working visas and applicable filing requirements, and update participants on current H-1B provisions and the petition process for H-1B visas. Other work visas and employment-based permanent residency (green card) will be introduced as well.

*Students with questions related to practical training should attend the CPT/OPT workshops listed above and consult with an OISSS advisor.
